1856

They were the Worst of Times

Before the Beginning

Chuck D, Pompey man !

(…& sometimes Ladies & Gents, they were even worse than that…)

Saturday Afternoons would come & go with nothing more for grown men to do but stand around pretending to be chimneys

…a Mid-Week Fixture consisted of simply sitting about on rickety gates, talking a load of old turnips & hoping to avoid being struck by lightning

Shocking !

Wet &Windy Wednesdays in Wednesbury, Workington, Worcester or Wigan held even less appeal back then, than they hold, now

…& another thing…

…There was always a wee roond a Gowf *

Wis ma baw gan..?

Gowd help us !

…well, perhaps not

*…that’ll be a ‘little round of Golf’ to those Non-Scots among us

Maybe a crack at the Cricket might help while away those idle hours…

Owzat !!!

The Ballad of ‘Bouncing’ Tom Boxcoming soon

(…as long as it was summer & not raining, of course…)

A little light ice-skating should conditions be conducive - Keep an eye out for the thin ice, mind !

…With that calamitous conflict in the Crimea finally finished (…for the time being, at least…) somewhere in the region of Britains Middle, the reek of peaceful revolution hangs heavy in the air

well, MOSTLY peaceful, that is

Is it 1857 yet?

“…& another thing & another & another &…”
